The Preschool is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services [montgomerycountymd.gov] of Montgomery County, Maryland, as a private Educational Institution and holds a Certificate of Approval by the Maryland State Board of Education. [marylandpublicschools.org]

Meet the School Staff

  • All teachers have a bachelor's degree or master's degree and experience with young children in a preschool setting.
  • Assistant teachers must possess a love for children and knowledge of early childhood behavior.
  • All staff are required to be trained in First Aid and CPR in conjunction with annual early childhood educational workshops. This past year the staff participated in workshops such as Building Relationship with Children, When to Refer a Child for Speech-Language Evaluation, ADHD: What Is It and How Do I Deal With It? Sensory Integration, and Discovery Science Experience.

Shelia Mullett, Director and Teacher

Article Pic Mrs. Shelia Mullett and her husband Bill reside in Gaithersburg. They have one daughter who graduated from Widener University in Pennsylvania with a Masters in Social Work. She currently resides in Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Mullett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocational Home Economics from Marshall University. She has her MAE (+30 hours) in Early Childhood Education from Trinity College and holds a valid Maryland teaching certificate (preschool - third grade). Mrs. Mullett has taught three and four year old children for twenty-four years and has been a preschool director for eighteen years. She is beginning her thirteenth year as Directory/Teacher of Covenant United Methodist Preschool. Mrs. Mullett is a founding director of Covenant United Methodist Preschool.

Mrs. Mullett is a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. She serves on the Women's Leadership Team, serves as a mentor during Confirmation and on various other committees within the church. In her leisure time she enjoys reading, walking and spending time with family and friends.

Barbara Crown, Teacher

Article Pic Mrs. Barbara Crown lives with her husband and their two sons in Gaithersburg. She has a B.A. in Economics and Paralegal Studies from the University of Maryland. She has been a volunteer at her children's elementary schools and Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg. She was a teacher at the church's Mother's Day Out program for four years, teaching three and four year old children. Mrs. Crown was an Assistant Teacher two years and has been a teacher for four years at Covenant United Methodist Preschool.

Mrs. Crown enjoys reading, walking, playing handbells and all kinds of crafts. This is her sixth year at Covenant United Methodist Preschool.

Janette Malone, Teacher

Article Pic Mrs. Malone lives in Montgomery Village with her husband and two sons. Originally from San Diego, she moved to Maryland in 2000. Both her children attended CUMP from 2002-2006. Janette holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Business Administration from National University. She is also serving in the U. S. Navy Reserves as a Commander and recently completed an 11 month overseas deployment in Africa this past year. She volunteers at her children’s elementary school and is active with the PTA. In her spare time she enjoys all outdoor sports especially golf and softball, loves Hawaiian dancing, and playing with her kids. She has worked at CUMP for over 3 years and is looking forward to heading back into the classroom.

Lisa Broadman, Teacher

Article Pic Mrs. Broadman lives in Gaithersburg with her husband Steve and their two sons. Both of her boys attended CUMP and now attend Laytonsville Elementary School. Mrs. Broadman has a Bachelor of Arts in business from the University of South Florida and a Masters of General Administration from the University of Maryland. She worked as a Financial Analyst for 16 years before moving on to her most challenging career yet, stay-at-home mom.

Mrs. Broadman is an active volunteer at her children's school and enjoys reading, exercising and socializing with family and friends. She was a substitute teacher at CUMP for one year then moved to a teaching position. This will be her second year as a teacher.

Janet McIntire, Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Janet McIntire lives in Montgomery Village with her husband and two sons. She is a graduate of James Madison University with a BBA in Computer Information Systems, and worked as a Systems Analyst before having children. Mrs. McIntire is a member of Covenant UMC, and is also a teacher for the Terrific Two's program. She also helps with Sunday School. During her free time, Mrs. McIntire enjoys volunteering at her children's schools, spending time with her family and reading.

This is Mrs. McIntire's fourth year on staff at CUMP.

Sue Mason, Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Sue Mason and her husband Nick live in Montgomery Village with their two children. Mrs. Mason attended Widener University. She has been a member of Covenant United Methodist Church since 1983. She works with the children's programs at Covenant, assisting with Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and youth activities. She serves on the Altar Guild and the Hospitality program. For relaxation Mrs. Mason enjoys gardening, needlework, and reading. Attending her children’s sports events fills much of her free time. She volunteers with the Booster Club and PTSA.

This is Mrs. Mason's twelfth year working at the preschool as an Assistant Teacher.

Beth Bogren, Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Beth Bogren and her husband, Scott, live in Germantown with their two children, both of whom are CUMP alumni.

Mrs. Bogren attended Montgomery College and worked as a preschool Assistant Teacher before becoming a full-time mom. She had been a substitute teacher for Covenant United Methodist Preschool for eight years before joining the staff.

Mrs. Bogren makes the most of her free time volunteering at her children's schools, and enjoys exercising, scrapbooking, her women's book club, and spending time with her family and friends.

This will be Mrs. Bogren's fifth year on staff at Covenant United Methodist Preschool.

Kristy Walsh, Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Kristy Walsh and her husband live in Germatown with their two children.

Mrs. Walsh attended Montgomery College. She worked for the federal government from 1988-1995 when she quit 2 months before the birth of her first child to be a full-time mom. Her children attended a cooperative nursery school where she was a volunteer board member and active parent. She volunteers as much as possible in her children's school.

Mrs. Walsh is active in her community and Home Owner's Association. She delivered Meals on Wheels in Germantown for 2 years. She attends Mother Seton Parish in Germantown, where she was a School of Religion volunteer for 3 years. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family. She enjoys walking and reading.

Mrs. Walsh has been a substitute teacher for CUMP for three years. She is beginning her fifth year as an assistant teacher.

Kathy Crapo, Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Kathy Crapo and her husband, John, live in Clarksburg with their two children. John is a retired Navel Officer who works as a consultant in the metropolitan Washington area. Mrs. Crapo has volunteered at Church Sunday School in Charleston, SC. She has been a nursery volunteer at church and parent volunteer for her children's schools in Clarksburg. She is currently a volunteer at her home church, Cedarbrook Community Church, with the infant's room and children's check in Sunday school.

During Mrs. Crapo's free time she enjoys exercising, leisure walks, gardening, visiting with friends, and especially spending time with her family.

This is Mrs. Crapo's fourth year on staff.

DeAnne Post, Administrative Assistant

Mrs. DeAnne Post and her family have been members of Covenant United Methodist Church for over twenty years. Mrs. Post has a love of the Lord, and an interest in teaching children that began early in life. With her passion for dancing she earned a B.S. degree in Dance from Kansas State University. Currently she owns her own dance school holding classes for children, ages 3-18 in ballet, jazz, and tap.

During Mrs. Post's daytime hours, she enjoys volunteering with the Damascus cluster schools, and temping as secretary when needed. In each aspect of her life, she finds rewards and blessings daily. She is looking forward to her eighth year on staff at Covenant United Methodist Preschool.
