What to Expect as a Guest at Covenant United Methodist Church
It is our sincere hope that all persons will feel welcome at our church, and comfortable in joining us in worship. Below is a brief overview of what you can expect during Sunday mornings at Covenant.
What to Wear:
- There is no written, or unwritten dress code. Men wear everything from suits to shorts in the summer. Women wear everything from dresses to outfits suitable for chasing a cookie crumb covered 2 year-old. Our concern is not the clothing we wear, but the heartfelt compassion we demonstrate to the world.
Sunday School:
- Nursery care for 0-2 years old is available during both the 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM liturgies.
- Christian Education for all children is available during the 10:00 AM liturgy. Classes are assigned in September; children stay in the same class all year, regardless of their birth date. Visitors should go to what they think is the correct room and consult the teacher.
- Children ages 2 to 3½ meet in a regular classroom if they are able to work independently in a group setting. Younger 2s should go to the nursery.
- Children ages 3½ to 11 meet in classrooms; room locations are posted in the hall.
- Youth grades 6-12 may attend service or attend the youth meetings in Rooms 5 and 6.
- When you enter the sanctuary, ushers will greet you, provide a bulletin, and assist you with finding a seat, if needed. In addition to the printed liturgy, the bulletin includes congregational responses and tells you when to stand or sit. Lyrics to songs can be found in hymnals located under the seats, or on a screen in the front of the sanctuary.
- Information folders are available for visitors desiring more information about Covenant and its ministries. These can be obtained from ushers or greeters.
- Special audio-enhancement equipment for the hearing impaired is available in the Memorial Desk. You must sit near the center of the sanctuary to be within the hearing loop. The ushers can provide assistance.
- A prayer book is located in the entrance to the sanctuary, where you may register your prayer concerns and joys prior to the service. These joys and concerns are shared with the pastor prior to the start of worship, and with a prayer group that meets following the liturgy.
- Prior to the start of the liturgy we would appreciate you taking a moment to sign the attendance registration form in a small red folder located under the inside aisle seats. If you have children in Sunday School, please include their names as well.
Holy Communion (the eucharist):
- In the United Methodist Church we practice open communion. All persons are invited to receive the communion elements. There are no restrictions of membership, denomination, or faith. We understand the eucharist (Holy Communion) to be a symbol of God's loving grace extended to all persons.
- Following the liturgy, please join us in the Fellowship Hall for a time of sharing. A variety of beverages and snacks are available for your enjoyment.
