Our Pastor and Staff

KEN FELL
PASTOR

Ken and his wife, Dyan, have been active in the life of Covenant since 2015. Ken retired that summer, after 35 years of pastoral ministry. He has a Master of Divinity (1980) and a Doctor of Ministry (2000) from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C.  Ken is native to New Jersey and began his ministry there, transferring to the Baltimore-Washington Conference in 1983.  He and Dyan live in Germantown.  They have three adult children (all living less than an hour's drive away!) and one grandson they are trying to spoil. Ken is an avid fan of the Washington National's, has been known to frequent Jimmy Buffet concerts, doesn't like his middle name and tells outrageous lies if you ask him what the "R" stands for

KERRI GARLAND

DIRECTOR OF CHILDRENS' MINISTRIES

Kerri discovered Covenant United Methodist Church while looking for a preschool for her daughter. She shares, "We not only found a great preschool, but an amazing church!" Kerri feels blessed to have been welcomed onto the staff, and she enjoys giving back to a place that has been so welcoming to her family. She is grateful to have the opportunity to work with the children and family at Covenant.  Kerri's son has now been through the Terrific Two's program, and her daughter has officially finished the 3's and 4's program here. Kerri and her husband are originally from Maine, but have lived in the Virginia/Maryland area for the past seven years and absolutely love the area.

KATHRYN HERMAN

DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

A native New Yorker, Kathy moved to Gaithersburg in 1983, and immediately found her church home at Covenant United Methodist Church.  In addition to directing the Chancel Choir and playing organ and piano here at Covenant,  Kathy worked as a choral music teacher in the Sachem School District, NY and in the Montgomery County School System.  Kathy is inspired by the wealth and diversity of talent represented in the Covenant family.  She believes that music ministers to the congregation in a very special way and she search for music in a variety of styles that will provide joyful, welcoming and spirit-filled opportunities to praise and worship God.

MARCIA PITTS

DIRECTOR OF TERRIFIC TWOS MINISTRY

Marcia  served as Youth Director at Covenant before becoming the Director of the Terrific Twos Ministry.   She and her husband, Steve and their two daughters  have been touched in so many ways by the Covenant church family.  As Youth Director, I was blessed with the chance to know and work with a great bunch of teenagers from our church community.  Now I get to see the smiles of little ones as they experience the joys of learning, making friends and the love of Jesus Christ.

NANCY REDING
OFFICE MANAGER
As an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bethesda, Nancy enjoys spending her working hours supporting another faith community.  She loves interacting with the Covenant members and Terrific Twos parents in many ways.  Call (301) 926-8920 or stop by the church office on Monday- Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Mary and her husband Bill have been members of Covenant for over 17 years. They have an 12 year old son who is an alumni of Covenant's Terrific Twos Program and Preschool, as well as a 25 year old daughter. Mary shares that she has been blessed to be the nursery care provider for over ten years.  She looks forward to being in the nursery every Sunday and being a familiar face to the children.  Mary  also  assists in the Terrific Twos Program.  She is proud to be known as "Ms. Mary".

LISA BROADMAN
PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR

Lisa is the Director of the Covenant Preschool and attendsCovenant UM Church with her husband and two sons.  Lisa's journey began while her sons were students at the preschool and she was a substitute teacher. She works closely with the Terrific Twos director to form a cohesive preschool family and give the children a positive foundation for their education. It is important for Lisa to help children develop a love for learning, have respect for others, and a sense of confidence in themselves.

MARILYN CADOFF
BOOKKEEPER

When Marilyn retired from her position as Director of Accounting at a Washington-based non-profit in 2006,
she learned of a part-time opportunity at Covenant.  In September 2001, she joined the staff at Covenant and has been working there there ever since on a volunteer basis to take care of the church's financial records.  She enjoys the work but shares what makes it very special is "being part of the Covenant family as they carry out they mission to bring God's love and word to the community".
